UTK to Dedicate Innovation South
New Home for IACMI and Cutting-Edge Composites Research Lab
On Friday, Oct. 18, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will dedicate Innovation South—an impressive 85,000-sq-ft, multi-use facility located at the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. This new space will serve as IACMI’s headquarters but will also house UTK’s new Fibers and Composites Manufacturing Facility (FCMF), a 40,000-sq-ft high bay and laboratory led by Uday Vaidya, UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair for Advanced Composites Manufacturing and IACMI’s Chief Technology Officer.
Innovation South will be a strategic hub for regional collaboration in advanced composites and manufacturing. It will offer IACMI members and industry leaders access to cutting-edge research, world-class facilities, and collaborative office space. In addition to UT and IACMI, other tenants are slated to move into Innovation South. IACMI members interested in sharing limited office space with IACMI should contact Erin Brophy.
Stay tuned for our open house event in 2025, where we’ll celebrate this exciting new chapter for IACMI and the advanced composites community.

IACMI Launches Internship Program: Apply Now
Applications are now open for IACMI member companies wanting to host interns and for college students who want to serve as interns. The internships, in partnership with the Department of Energy, are offered in both summer and semester formats.
For member companies: The program provides fresh talent to small and large businesses and academic institutions by managing and vetting intern applications. Hosts gain access to motivated and skilled interns who can provide valuable assistance on projects while supporting workforce development in the composites industry. IACMI’s cost-sharing structure makes it accessible for companies of all sizes to participate. Small businesses cover 20% of intern costs, with IACMI reimbursing the remaining 80%, while larger organizations share costs on a sliding scale.
For students: Interns gain hands-on experience, work on cutting-edge projects, and connect with industry leaders. These opportunities allow students to immerse themselves in their fields of study while balancing academic requirements.
