IACMI, DoD Announces New Partnerships to Combat Workforce Shortages
IACMI and the DoD's IBAS team have teamed up with Penn State University, University of Tennessee Knoxville, and Jobs for the Future to tackle critical workforce shortages in the U.S. casting and forging industry. This collaboration aims to strengthen our national defense by developing a skilled workforce through the METAL program. With a need for 122,000 skilled workers by 2028, METAL will engage students and adults in educational and hands-on training programs.

Minnesota’s Major Mobile Machining Milestone
For months, America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) partner St. Cloud State University has meticulously chipped away at crafting a mobile machining classroom – something that will bring the flagship ACE CNC machining training to the doorsteps of businesses and schools in Minnesota. It’s a full-size semi-trailer, 56 feet long and 21 feet wide with the bump outs, that’s outfitted with everything needed to give someone an introduction to a machining career or learn new skills in their manufacturing jobs.

DOE Batteries & Electrification Funding Opportunity
DOE recently announced an intent to fund projects that will advance research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) in several areas critical to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. The potential funding will drive innovations in low-cost electric vehicle battery manufacturing, using inexpensive and abundant battery materials in support of a viable domestic materials supply chain, and conducting smart-charge management demonstrations.

ARPA-Energy Announces $150 million to Develop Technologies
Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy recently announced up to $150 million in funding to develop systems that provide abundant primary energy, intermodal energy transport, and sustainably meet the demand for polymers and other materials. The Vision OPEN call includes three goals that are critical to achieve a sustainable energy and carbon transition with: greenhouse gas-free abundant primary energy; an intermodal energy superhighway that transports diversified forms of primary energy; and a carbon transition that sustainably meets the demand for polymers and other materials.
