Marking 10 Years of Innovation
As we look ahead to 2025, IACMI is excited to celebrate our 10th anniversary throughout the year! From the pivotal announcement on January 9, 2015, establishing a national institute for composites, to the official “open for business” signing in June, IACMI has achieved significant milestones. The celebration will kick off on January 9, 2025, with a special news release reflecting on our journey and accomplishments. On January 13, we’ll host an Innovation Insights webinar, spotlighting key achievements and the impact IACMI has made over the past decade. Throughout the year, we’ll continue to highlight the statistics, stories, and perspectives that showcase IACMI’s contributions to innovation, collaboration, and growth in the composites industry. With membership expanding, new technical projects underway, and workforce development programs thriving, there’s much to celebrate.

Uday Vaidya UTRF Innovator of the Year
We are proud to announce Uday Vaidya, IACMI’s Chief Technology Officer, has been recognized as Innovator of the Year by the University of Tennessee Research Foundation (UTRF). This prestigious recognition highlights Uday’s exceptional contributions to advancing university research, commercialization, and practical applications in the field of advanced composites. His work has not only propelled innovation but also inspired the next generation of learners and innovators. In 2024 alone, UT achieved remarkable milestones, including licensing 8 new technologies for industry applications and securing patents for 21 research teams. Uday played a pivotal role in this success and was recognized for his leadership in advanced composites and his dedication to STEM education. His development of the InnoCrate curriculum and STEM books for K-12 students underscores his commitment to shaping the future.

Showcasing Workforce Initiatives at DMC
Last week, IACMI’s METAL and ACE teams participated in the Defense Manufacturing Conference (DMC) in Austin, Texas, an event bringing together leaders from government, industry, and academia tackling challenges in the U.S. defense industrial base. With particular interest in reshoring efforts, K-12 outreach, and supply chain security, DMC was an excellent place to share IACMI’s diverse workforce development programs. For instance, InnoCrate is attracting young talent in composites, casting, forging and CNC machining. IACMI CTO Uday Vaidya, who developed InnoCrate, participated in a panel, sharing insights into building a skilled workforce, including equipping K-12 students with foundation knowledge for careers
